Abstract
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a common sarcoma of the soft tissue, usually arising from the extremities and less commonly in the retroperitoneal space, the abdominal cavity, or other sites. However, MFH of the liver is quite a rare neoplasm. This tumor has five distinct histological subtypes: storiform-pleomorphic, myxoid, giant cells, inflammatory, and angiomatoid. Recently, we experienced a case of primary MFH in a surgically removed liver of a 63-year-old woman. The tumor, measuring 13x10 cm, was located in the right lobe of the liver with multiple areas of hemorrhage and necrosis. Microscopically, it was storiform-pleomorphic subtype. Immunohistochemically, many of tumor cells were positive for vimentin, focally positive for CD68, but negative for actin, cytokeratin, anti-hepatocyte, and S-100.
